DEKORA!
Blueprint Process + Collateral
The Story
It’s not every day that the stars align and you’re presented with a project that’s undeniably in your wheelhouse. When the owners of Bricktown’s In The Raw Sushi approached us about a rebrand inspired by “a tattooed Bruce Lee in sunglasses fighting Godzilla in the middle of downtown Tokyo” our brains nearly exploded with ideas.
The name DEKORA! stems from the Japanese style of completely decking out trucks in all manner of lights, lasers, chrome, and extravagance known as Dekotora. Supported by the tagline, “Extreme Yum,” the brand was a rallying cry for fun in the heart of Oklahoma City’s entertainment district. The mark itself evokes the feel of moving neon lighting, with a color palette that leaves the traditional Japanese Black, White, and Red in the dust.
To support the brand we created a series of illustrated character heads nodding to pop culture classics like Pikachu and Ultraman, and a larger than life mural of three costumed sushi heroines battling a crazed octopod chef that spanned multiple floor to ceiling windows in the space. We even provided the owners with a shopping guide of vinyl kaiju toys, throw pillows, wall art, and paint swatches. We just couldn’t help ourselves.
